Named after the Huon River south of Hobart, where the tree was first discovered during the French Bruni D’Entrecasteaux expedition in 1792, the Huon Pine became known as Tasmania’s “Green Gold,” helping shape the state’s early economy through its prized golden timber and remarkable durability.
